1950s Drifters..Bobby's on the right
Home
The story of the Drifters is the story of Rock and Roll. In 1953 Ahmet Ertegun who would go on to found Atlantic Records was producing acts. He saw an incredible young tenor singer named Clyde McPhatter in a club and signed him to a management deal. They built a singinging act around Clyde and the named it "The Drifters". A succession of singers came and went. In 1954 Bill Pinkney was added to the act. In 1956 Clyde left after a dispute with Ahmet and his producing partner Jerry Wexler. They brought in young Bobby Hendricks as a replacement for Clyde. In 1958 Bobby Hendricks and Bill Pinkney both left and the Drifters lineup changed again. They joined and rejoined the act through  the next several decades and today both Bill and Bobby lead versions of the Drifters.

Bobby's show is a faithful recreation of the original act with five lead vocalists and a great band doing all the classic hits like "Up On the Roof", "Under the Boardwalk", "Stand By Me", "There Goes My Baby", "Save The Last Dance For Me", "This Magic Moment", and more.
