The Winter Dance Party
"The Day The Music Died"

On February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, JP Richardson (The Big Bopper) and Richie Valens, on tour as the "Winter Dance Party" got on a chartered plan to fly to their next stop, Fargo ND.  The pilot was 21 year old Roger Peterson.  The plane crashed right after takeoff killing all four of them.  Waylon Jennings and Tommy Allsup were supposed to be on the plan but gave up their seats to the Boper and Valens.  The rest is history and the crash was immortalized by Don McClean in the 1972 song, AmericanPie (The Day The Music Died).

The Day the Music Died show offered here stars John Mueller as Buddy Holly, widely recognized as being the most accurate Buddy Holly impressionist in the world.  Along with the Big Bopper Jr, JP Richardson, who is actually the first Big Boppers son and Fernando Vega as Richie Valens.  Louis Valedez, the director of the movie La Bamba, after meeting and hearing Fernando Vega sing said, "I wish I would have met him before the movie was made".
